Domaine de Bila Haut L'esquerde
I loved the 2014 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Lesquerde l’Esquerda and this blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache comes from one of the most exciting terroirs in the Roussillon: the decomposed granite soils around the village of Lesquerde on the western edge of the Agly Valley. Destemmed and aged all in concrete, it offers loads of minerality and wet earth characteristics, medium-bodied richness, fine tannin, beautiful purity, and tons of black and blue-styled fruits. Reminiscent of a fine St Joseph, I suspect it will evolve nicely for 6-7 years, possibly longer.
